Uncover: Shoemaker Noriyuki Misasa
December 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Noriyuki Misawa is a Tokyo-based shoemaker and artist. Apart from making custom-ordered shoes and wooden shoe lasts, and holding shoemaking classes, he creates artistic pieces with sophisticated skills he has acquired through shoemaking.
In the past year, Misawa has been involved in collaborations with both renowned Japanese and global artists. Misawa is visiting Berlin this December to craft shoes specifically tailored for a Berlin-based pianist, Henning Schmiedt. Using this opportunity, we have invited him to talk about his artistic innovations, which include:
– A piece employing techniques of traditional Japanese crafts; gilding, fretwork.
– A conceptual piece inspired by Mercedes-Benz
– A tribute creation to Syd Mead, who is a legendary, futuristic designs artist.
What inspires Misawa’s creative artistry? How does he execute his ideas into actual shapes? Come and learn how his mastery of shoemaking has led him to his own design directions. On the day Misawa will explain his evolutionary path by actually showing the audience his eclectic, amazing art creations which wowed the world.
