Berlin’s 1st of May is an especially exciting day. How about joining us for a meditative contrast program on the day after the big party? On Thursday, 2nd of May 2019, we invite you to be part of the first public screening of Floating Japan a short film by Johannes Bögle.

“Floating Japan” (2018) is a cinematic encounter with Japan. In the video work, nature and technology, pop culture and Zen meditation, and finally the images themselves blend into each other associatively. Purely in black and white, the images catch moments of pausing whilst the viewer is oscillating between participating and observing. “Floating Japan” was entirely shot with a smartphone, and is an attempt to approach the Japanese lifeworld in a very personal way.

Johannes Bögle is an exhibition designer and video artist based in Berlin. In his free projects he focuses on playful and serial forms of video installation. After studying visual communication and video art in Berlin and Vienna, he took part in numerous exhibitions and film festivals in Germany and abroad. His film “Indian Alps” (2012) won the Innovative Film Award at the Austrian film festival YOUKI. Since 2013, he has been working for the Berlin office for scenography chezweitz, most recently as art director and project manager for the exhibition Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssee” at Deutsches Filmmuseum Frankfurt.

Der 1. Mai ist ein aufregender Tag in Berlin. Um so schöner, dass wir euch am Tag nach der großen Party ein meditatives Kontrastprogramm anbieten können: Am Donnerstag, den 2. Mai 2019 lädt NION Berlin zum ersten öffentlichen Screenings des Films Floating Japan von Johannes Bögle ein.

“Floating Japan” (2018) ist eine filmische Betrachtung Japans. In der Videoarbeit fließen Natur und Technik, Popkultur und Zenmeditation und schließlich die Filmbilder selbst assoziativ ineinander. Farbreduzierte Aufnahmen zeigen Momente des Innehaltens und versetzen die Betrachter*innen in einen Modus zwischen Teilnehmen und Beobachten. Ausschließlich mit dem Smartphone aufgenommen, stellt “Floating Japan” den Versuch dar, sich der japanischen Lebenswelt auf ganz persönliche Weise anzunähern.

Johannes Bögle ist Ausstellungsgestalter und Videokünstler in Berlin. In seinen freien Arbeiten legt er den Fokus auf spielerisch-serielle Formen der Videoinstallation. Nach dem Studium der Visuellen Kommunikation und Videokunst in Berlin und Wien nahm er an zahlreichen Ausstellungen und Filmfestivals im In- und Ausland teil. Sein Film “Indische Alpen” (2012) gewann den Innovative Film Award auf dem österreichische Filmfestival YOUKI. Seit 2013 ist er für das Berliner Szenografie-Büro chezweitz tätig, zuletzt als Art Direktor und Projektleiter für die Ausstellung “Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssee” im Deutschen Filmmuseum Frankfurt.
