The innovation hub for active experimentation, smart concepts and innovation for Berlin’s first international smart, open quarter.
This highly equipped innovation hub with a Fabrication Café and a number of workshops on power include “smart” co-sharing and co-working spaces to facilitate collaboration between Japanese and international entrepreneurs, top universities, and corporates. Intense workshops ignite ideas and the residency program will empower long-term and in-depth development of products and solutions for a better today and tomorrow.
NION will operate as a smart city where scientific and engineering inventions are implemented right away for urban issues, such as waste management, mobility, and an on-site smart grid of alternative energy.

“This could be the source for exciting synergies when it comes to common developments; for example in robotics, smart energy, and home automation/entertainment.
I started my professional career at Sony’s environmental Center Europe in Stuttgart in the late 90’s. At that time almost no consumer electronic producer wasted a single thought on the recycling economy and energy efficiency. But Sony did: They established a world-wide team dealing with environmental matters. It was one of Sony’s greatest strengths – and maybe a Japanese one. Sony proved their perseverance by consistently following this strategy despite being the sole advocate of this trend for many years.”
